September 28 will be a big day for the Indian Cricket Team on and off the field. The first part is likely to happen as India may play the Asia Cup 2025 final, considering their sheer dominance so far in the tournament. Off-field, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will elect its next set of office-bearers, including the president, but it may not exactly be the last day for finalizing the candidates.

According to a Cricbuzz report, top BCCI bosses with the current ruling BJP members have a meeting scheduled in Delhi on September 20, when the most important decision is likely to be made. The meeting, informal as it may be in nature, will be conducted at the place of Home Minister Amit Shah, where the next set of BCCI office-bearers will likely be determined. Notably, it was also during a similar kind of meeting in 2022 when former President N Srinivasan had famously vented his frustration on the then BCCI President Sourav Ganguly over his performance in the preceding three years.

It was also known during that meeting that the former India captain would have continued for another term, but the meeting eventually chose former all-rounder Roger Binny as the President. It is still not known whether Ganguly will be invited to the meeting again this time, as speculations continue to linger around him being BCCI President yet again, along with former teammate Harbhajan Singh.

Raghuram Bhatt and Kiran More's names are also doing the rounds for the top BCCI post. The latter's name may sound a bit out of the blue, as his name does not appear on the list of state election representatives who can contest the election, but that is not the case, as there is a provision to update the list.

Selectors interview underway

On the other hand, the BCCI is also conducting interviews for the new selectors on Thursday, September 18. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), with Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjpe as members, is holding the interviews online. Sulakshana Naik, the third member, is no longer part of it, and BCCI may have to find a replacement sooner.

The CAC will choose seven candidates all in all - two members for the Ajit Agarkar-led men's national selection committee, one for the national junior committee, and four for the national women's committee. The new selector members will take charge after the September 28 AGM.
